My son is turning into an Australian
By Yessie | September 10, 2008
My 2 year old son is becoming such an Australian. He has recently started saying “ta” (Australian for thank you) whenever he gives you something or takes something. It’s the cutest thing! I have no idea why Australians say “ta” instead of just saying “thanks”! While it’s strange, I’m cool with it…as long as he doesn’t say “tea” instead of “dinner”. That just irks me. Tea is a beverage not a meal!

I swear it’s because they are lazy. THey abbreviate even simple words… so “Thank You” is just WAY too much to say
Ta is much shorter.

Hi, tea is from england where they used to have high tea at around 5-6 o’clock and dinner at 7-8 o’clock. So australians eat there meal at high tea time and call it tea! Although now high tea is morning tea so it is getting a bit confusing.

I always got a giggle when people say, “I’m going to go home and cook tea.”
I like ta. It’s cute. I use it myself.
