When I was home and I missed home!

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

I loved being back in the States. I loved visiting my favorite places back home and seeing my friends and family. It was great to eat the food I soooo missed and shop at familiar stores.
But funnily enough I felt like a “visitor”. I thought that once I went back home that [...]

Holiday blues

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

I’m a little OCD so it’s no surprise that I normally have my Christmas shopping done by October every year with just a few stocking stuffers left to buy here and there.  However, Christmas is only a few weeks away and I haven’t even begun my shopping (well, LJ is taken care as I bought [...]

Happy Thanksgiving

Friday, November 28th, 2008

It’s Thanksgiving back home and I’m missing it!  We would have had turkey and the works here but a small turkey cost about $40 and it wasn’t worth it when we need to save all our (electronic) pennies for our house.  We hope to do Thanksgiving here next year in our own house, God willing.

Empty lawns

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

While watching reruns of Desperate Housewives this afternoon while LJ napped and while making lists of things we need to do once we move into our new house, I realized something. Back home (at least the part of NJ that I’m from), it’s common to sit in the front lawn while the kids play. We [...]

Missing Z100

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Back home in NJ, my car stereo was always tuned to Z100.  I grew up with that station…well from high school to adulthood, Z100 provided my theme music of the moment.  In the morning on my drive to work, I listened to Elvis and the rest of the gang of the morning crew.  I would [...]

The things that you realize

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I was sorting through the million pictures I have on my camera’s memory cards and I came across some photos of the car I had in the US.  Then the realization hit me like a ton of bricks – I truly and deeply miss my car.  I know, of all things, I miss my car [...]

6 months and still it’s there

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

When I first moved here and experienced my first wave of homesickness, I was told by other Americans who moved here that it would take about 6 months for the homesickness to go away. So I set my mental clock to await my 6 month anniversary when I thought I would have the switch [...]

Amazon withdrawal

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Back in NJ, my day consisted of:
Wake up. Get ready for work. Get MJ ready for work. Feed LJ and get him ready for his day. Drop him off at daycare. Then I would go to work. During my lunch break, I would run errands and/or go see LJ. [...]

I’ve been homesick

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

This past week or so I have been feeling extremely homesick.  I don’t know why but I just wanted to be home.  I know at one point I will refer to Australia as “home” (well I least I hope) but NJ will always be my real HOME and I guess there will always be a [...]

Strange weather

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

This morning I got an email from someone back home complaining that it was snowing. 7 inches (about 18cm) and still falling hard and thick. After reading the email, I got a pang of jealousy while MJ was relieved he wasn’t there. While I don’t LOVE snow, I don’t HATE it either. [...]
