Trying to get adjusted
I know it’s been awhile since I last posted about my adventures in Australia but we had some technical difficulties. Back home we had cable internet. It was unlimited bandwidth and fast and most importantly only $50 a month – just the way I like it. However, in Australia, it’s unheard of to have unlimited bandwidth and there are different speed packages.
My mother-in-law (MIL for future reference) had DSL for $40 a month with only 1gb of bandwidth and some low number for speed – it was OK but not instantaneous as back home. If she went over the 1gb then it would get lowered to dial-up speed for the rest of the month. It served her needs just fine. Well within a couple of days of MJ and I being here we went over the 1gb, therefore we were thrown back into the dark ages of dial-up. It was painful so I stayed away until we upgraded to 20 gb and a slightly faster speed which will cost an extra $30 a month. So we will be paying $70 a month for way less than we had back home.
Looking on the bright side:
We now have our Medicare cards (medical insurance that everyone gets) and MJ is now getting Newstart (unemployment benefits) until he finds a job. We’re also currently looking into buying a car. MJ is obsessed with Holdens so I guess that’s what we will be getting at one point – once we find one we both agree on. He wants powerful and fast; I want reliable and cheap.Um, that’s about it for now.
In the meantime, I will try to be more diligent with my posts – assuming we have no other technical difficulties.
