Interesting read.  I’ve noticed most of these things, however, I’ve also noticed people take undrunk wine or uneaten food that they have brought to a party back home with them.  If I bring it to a party, I leave it for the host to enjoy or give away or toss out, if necessary.  But I have seen many, many people take the leftovers back which I have always found strange.  Also, as for “taking the piss” I haven’t seen people get offended over jokes whether or not the person or persons in question were there – particularly if it’s at the Irish or the Dutch expense.
